Chasing Waldo
My most recent Color Theory class project was to find a favorite artist, identify the colors in one of their pieces, and then use them in an original work. I have many favorite artists, all for different reasons, but the one that stuck out to me was Nate Simpson, of Project Waldo. His line work is crazy-awesome and detailed beyond my understanding, but his use of color knocks me out.
I chose panel 1 of page two of his work-in-progress comic to pull the palette from. We were required to rename the colors however we wanted, I didn't get too creative there, just combined some words here and there:

And here's the result. I asked once for friends to give me ideas of things to draw and my sister asked for a 'golden nightling.' I asked what that might be and she didn't know, just that it is what came to her. I owe her for the spark of inspiration. The result is below:
