Chasing Waldo

My most recent Color Theory class project was to find a favorite artist, identify the colors in one of their pieces, and then use them in an original work. I have many favorite artists, all for different reasons, but the one that stuck out to me was Nate Simpson, of Project Waldo. His line work is crazy-awesome and detailed beyond my understanding, but his use of color knocks me out.

I chose panel 1 of page two of his work-in-progress comic to pull the palette from. We were required to rename the colors however we wanted, I didn't get too creative there, just combined some words here and there:



And here's the result. I asked once for friends to give me ideas of things to draw and my sister asked for a 'golden nightling.' I asked what that might be and she didn't know, just that it is what came to her. I owe her for the spark of inspiration. The result is below:

Big bot - Moji War

After two rounds of voting, Big Bot is popular enough to enter the Moji War at Mojizu.com. The war takes place over four rounds (one round per week) where mojis battle tournament-style for popularity. This week Big Bot is looking good against his competitor. But soon he will need your votes (you need to be registered with the site to vote)!

I'm pretty excited about this, but cautiously so. Droposaur made it all the way to the last round only to be soundly defeated. If the current trend continues, Big Bot should win this week and I feel fairly confident about next week as well, but round 3 will be tough. Expect updates on his progress!

New Year, new rules. No more videos, Colors has the playback on the same page as the image, and the process to make a video it too tedious. Look at some older posts, I draw all of these using the same technique :P
